Trump Accuses China of Not Fulfilling Boeing Deal as Trade War Gets More Intense

China suspended Boeing delivery as retaliation to the US 145% tariffs

Trump Says China ‘Reneged’ on Boeing Deal as Trade War Intensifies

Washington: US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that China went back to a major Boeing aircraft deal, after a news report that Beijing ordered the airlines not to deliver further to the US aviation legendary jets. Trump’s comments on social media followed the report of Bloomberg News about Halt. The report also stated that Beijing requested the Chinese carrier to stop the purchase of aircraft related equipment and some parts from American firms, as the growing trade war increases tension between the world’s two largest economies.

In a post on Satya social on Tuesday, Trump said, “Interestingly, he was just saying on the Big Boeing deal, he said that he will not be completely committed to the aircraft.” However, he did not specify the terms or scale of the agreement in the question. Bloomberg News reported that Chinese officials had directed domestic airlines to suspend further delivery of Boeing Jets. Citing anonymous sources familiar to the case, the report also said that Beijing had requested its carrier to purchase the aircraft related tools and spare parts from American companies.

The move is widely seen as a vengeance against the decision of the Trump administration to apply 145 percent tariffs on a wide range of sugar imports. Trump, who returned to the presidency earlier this year, has also introduced a 10 percent tariff on most American business partners and especially directed the additional levy targeting Chinese goods. After the news on Tuesday morning, Boeing shares fell by about 1.5 percent. Earlier in the day, the stock fell by about 2 percent after Bloomberg’s preliminary report. The US Aerospace giant has long seen China as one of its most important development markets, despite the dominance of European rival Airbus
