Samsung has put out a teaser for its next foldable Galaxy Z phone, which looks like it will be very different from the ones that came before it. There have been a lot of rumors about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 lately, but the official press release from the South Korean company keeps using the word “Ultra.” This makes us think that a “Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra” is on the way.
Samsung’s official website’s press release talks about an “ultra experience” that is more than just a collection of better specs in a small, portable package. The company says that users want “industrial-grade hardware, cutting-edge performance, and seamless integration of artificial intelligence,” which are all features that set the Galaxy Ultra series apart from other devices. So, the launch comes with the claim, “The Ultra experience is ready to unfold.”
The title of the press release, “Meet the Next Chapter of Ultra,” adds to this idea. The teaser silhouette shows a device with two halves, which rules out the possible tri-fold model that will come out later this year. The pictures also show that the thickness is very low. People say that each half of the device will be only 4.54 millimeters, which means that when it is closed, it will be about 9.1 millimeters tall. The Fold 6 is 3 mm thicker, or 12.2 mm, for comparison. The OPPO Find N5 is the thinnest “fold” in the world right now, measuring only 8.93 mm.
Samsung talks about the philosophy behind the new product by using the words “art and engineering” to describe a device that can make everyday life better. The next foldable will be made to go with the user “from the subway to the restaurant,” thanks to AI support. For instance, AI will be able to suggest places, send voice messages, and help write emails while the user is on the go. The company also says that the camera will be strong enough to “capture special moments, gaming sessions, and messaging all day long.”
The use of the word “Ultra,” however, raises a very important question: will Samsung release just one Ultra version for the new generation, or will there also be a “standard” Galaxy Z Fold 7 that is more like the current design and easier to get? What will the name of the tri-fold device that is expected to come out by the end of the year be? Some people thought that the latter could be called Ultra because it was more experimental and radical.
