Get ready for some exciting news! Apple is hinting at iOS 19 and macOS 16, promising to be the most significant upgrades we’ve seen in a decade!
Apple is preparing for one of the largest software redesigns in its history aiming to change the user experience on iPhones, iPads, and Macs. The company has been busy outlining a significant update set to come by the end of the year, Apple is planning for a “drastic shift in device interfaces” which will give all platforms a modern and more cohesive look.
New system menus, icons, apps, windows, and buttons along with seamless device transition will accompany the predicted launch of vision OS, the software that powers Apple’s Vision Pro headset, and Apple’s all encompassing software ecosystem. With every update, Apple tries to make navigation smoother and easier.
NEWS HAS YET TO BE DISCUSSED UNTIL WWDC 2025
According to Gurman, Apple is making this move at a tricky time for the company on account of regaining traction on slowing sales following the tech-boom post pandemic. Most shockingly, Apple’s iPhone sales dipped sharply over the last holiday season, And as such, Apple will be looking to execute software changes to capture the market’s excitement once again along with Apple loyalists and younger customers who are yet to try the brand.
The expected updates will come with iOS 19 and iPadOS 19, nicknamed “Luck,” alongside “Cheer,” which is macOS 16. For Mac users, this is the most considerable update the computer operating system has had since Big Sur in 2020, while for the iPhone ecosystem, since 2013 and iOS 7.
In terms of device support, the company is anticipated to broaden the scope of compatibility to all operating iPhones, iPads, and Mac’s bearing the latest software.

As an interface designer and product manager, Parker Ortolani noticed a significant change in the aesthetic aspect of Apple’s apps. He said that the company’s newer products, especially Apple Sports (which is not available in Italy) and the newer Apple Invites, look completely different from iOS 18.
Ortolani said that the design of those applications is more consistent with vision OS, which features glassy buttons, bold backgrounds, layered transparencies, and large rectangular cards that highlight the content. He added that Apple Sports off felt divorced from the rest of iOS 18, but Apple Invites deepens the divide even more.

Major Changes Expected at WWDC 2025 Apple’s June Worldwide Developers Conference has far more expected than just a change in functionality, as UI visual aspects will also change. In addition, this event may aid Apple in shifting attention away from issues the company has recently faced concerning artificial intelligence. The company’s indefinite postponement of a Siri update slated to transform the digital assistant with AI features serves as confirmation to previous Bloomberg reports.
A Bold—but Risky—Redesign Apple has refused to integrate its Mac and iPad operating systems into a single platform despite attempts to achieve a visually cohesive cross-device branded experience. The company’s focus on distinct user interfaces for both products encourages dual-system adoption. The addition of macOS design elements like translucency, rounded windows, and simplified icons greatly aids in predicting Apple’s future user interface designs.
A decade-long company veteran, Alan Dye who used to work at a fashion company before joining Apple is currently the head of the redesign software project. After chief of design Jonyy Ivey left in 2019, Dye added more to his plate by supervising over 300 designers. He has direct line of communication with COO Jeff Williams and collaborates with Molly Anderson who oversees Apple’s hardware and industrial design. Some of the designers however feel that compared to the previous years, the creative culture of the company has become rigid and more organized.
Apple knows that with over two billion active devices around the world, a singular drastic change to the interface can be detrimental. Some updates in the past like the redesign of the Phots app received negative reviews from users. Nonetheless, the company appears to be making an effort to position their brand back at the top of the tech industry by taking bold steps forward.
