Test Drive: 2025 Skoda Enyaq: Space Shaped Like an Electric SUV | Video

We tested the second generation of Skoda Enyaq, which for 2025 has been renewed not only in its aesthetics

It was 2021 when the first generation of the Skoda Enyaq arrived in Italy , an SUV that would allow Skoda to enter a segment populated by ambitious and demanding customers. It stood out for its peculiarities and has now been updated. But the test drive of the 2025 Skoda Enyaq shows that this is much more than a simple restyling , but rather a decisive leap forward.

The Skoda Tech Deck Face is coming

The front of the new 2025 Enyaq has been completely changed , in style and content. The only grille to supply air to the radiators is now located at the bottom, clearly symbolizing the fact that this is a car that doesn’t require significant air masses for cooling, like a good electric car. But what sets it apart most of all at the front is what Skoda calls the ” Tech Deck Face .” I first encountered it on the Skoda Elroq , which I tested a few months ago, and it translates into a glossy black band that runs from side to side, encompassing the four-point parking lights and, most importantly, hiding the sensors that allow the ADAS to function properly. The Skoda lettering has been inserted in full right in the center of the hood, a detail that seems trivial but which required a redesign of the front area of the hood. Clearly, this has a much deeper meaning, as it allows for a different perception of the brand by – especially – Italians.

The length of 4.65 meters is essentially the same as the previous model (except for the 1 cm increase due to the more pointed bumper), but this is largely hidden by the roof profile. This reaches towards the high and not particularly wide rear window, a factor now common to many SUVs and which forces the undisputed use of parking cameras . The new Enyaq is decidedly more consolidated with its rear design, where the light clusters have roots in a more traditional Skoda design, as does the trunk lid which provides access to a volume of 585 liters with the rear seats up and 1,710 with the rear seats folded down .

Space is the main deciding factor when climbing aboard the new 2025 Skoda Enyaq like the one we tested. Plenty of room, allowing for (almost) no limits in everyday life. The storage compartments around the car , under the two-level center console and under the armrest, are convenient for even the smallest everyday items, while the shape and support of the seats—with integrated headrests—allow everyone to find their ideal driving position. And speaking of driving position, I liked the steering wheel . It’s not a particularly articulated wheel, but at the same time it has decidedly original lines. It’s the controls on the two spokes that make the difference in terms of design and usability, factors that allow for a better perception of the car from the customer’s perspective.

A 5.3-inch display replaces the traditional instrument cluster . Some might like it, others might not, but it gets the job done. Sure, some information is small and hard to see at a quick glance, but the data appears to be arranged relatively neatly. A 13-inch infotainment display provides support . A highly visible touchscreen helps manage the on-board systems, including navigation and climate control. The number of physical buttons is practically minimal, while the screen’s positioning isn’t bad: it follows the natural curve of the dashboard, which extends inward. I wasn’t a fan of the carbon-look inserts, but they’re definitely better than the glossy black plastic. Finally, hats off to the gear selector , which, by taking advantage of the lack of mechanical connections, allowed for some playfulness: small and easy to reach, it looks great.

Let’s move on to the road test of the 2025 Skoda Enyaq

The 2025 Skoda Enyaq

The 2025 Skoda Enyaq I tested is the SportLine 85 trim , which features the largest battery of the two available. The battery has 82 kWh gross (77 kWh net) and only needs to power one motor on the rear axle, as this version has a single motor and rear-wheel drive. For all-wheel drive and a dual motor, you’d have to go for the Enyaq 85x, but in my case, I can’t complain: the single engine available delivers 285 hp and 545 Nm of maximum torque . Despite the Enyaq’s bulk and dimensions, traction is always guaranteed and satisfactory. Of course, at low speeds, pressing the accelerator harder leads to a sharper reaction than gaining speed once you’re off the ground, but the response is definitely in line with what I expected from such power. Of course, the Enyaq isn’t a car segment that demands sportiness at all costs, but a little pep never hurts . Just think that to get the power to the ground effectively, they chose to equip it with wider rear tires than the front ones: good for dynamics, less so for maintenance and replacement.

What you expect from an SUV this size is comfort, but comfort often comes with the dark side of body roll when cornering . In reality, I’ve found the 2025 Skoda Enyaq to be a real powerhouse, offering very good overall comfort without causing seasickness. In fact, it’s quite supportive when cornering, without compromising the absorption of bumps. In short, it seems they’ve found a decent balance when it comes to the suspension setup. There are also selectable driving modes , including Sport, which, as usual, isn’t exactly very useful in these cases.

The advantages of driving electric

Obviously, behind the wheel of the Enyaq you benefit from all the advantages of driving a fully electric car . Among these is the total absence of noise, which on the one hand obviously highlights all the possible passive noises that can be present. There is no rustling, however, so it’s not a major disturbance, just as the double front windows help isolate the car from the outside environment. In practice, there is also the possibility of modifying the energy recovery during braking using the paddles behind the steering wheel . There are three possible levels, which, however, are restored as soon as you accelerate again. It’s annoying having to select it each time, although it is possible to opt for mode B on the gear selector . I should point out, however, that the car also automatically reads the navigation map, so it knows when a turn or roundabout is coming up and automatically increases the intensity of the regeneration to help slow down. But what about range? The manufacturer claims 590 km according to the WLTP cycle . To recharge the battery, there’s a dual charging option: on one side, a maximum 11 kW of AC power (although I would have preferred 22 kW…), and on the other, a maximum 135 kW of DC power . This is an average value, but it helps recover from 10% to 80% of the battery in about 28 minutes, thanks also to advanced thermal management of the battery, which helps overall efficiency, both during charging and discharging.
