
Climate change is a serious problem , according to 85% of European citizens who participated in the Eurobarometer 565 survey . The survey was conducted between 18 February and 10 March 2025 and involved 26,319 people from the 27 EU Member States.

The Green Deal is not an abstract goal: it is a shared path towards healthier lives, secure energy and an economy that works for people. This survey confirms that citizens are ready to move forward and expect us to lead with clarity and ambition. Listening to them means making the transition just, fast and rooted in solidarity and dignity.
THE MAIN RESULTS

8 out of 10 European citizens support the EU objective of climate neutrality (2050) , 85% are convinced that the fight against climate change is a priority to improve public health and quality of life. There is also the belief that renewable energy should be increased and that energy efficiency should be improved, while 92% say they make sustainable choices on a daily basis. 82% are convinced that climate change is caused by human activity .

- Reducing fossil fuel imports will improve energy security and bring economic benefits to the Union for 75% of respondents
- 38 % of Europeans feel personally exposed to the risks deriving from climate change
- Most EU citizens think that the fight against climate change should be carried out mainly by national governments ( 66% ), the EU ( 59% ) and businesses ( 58% )
- 84 % of climate change is caused by humans
- 52 % believe that the media do not provide clear information on the topic, 49% have difficulty distinguishing reliable content from fake news on social media
